The Meaning of Vitamin and Their Classification



Understanding or definition of vitamin. At first vitamin is defined as a body of nutrients needed in small amount and must be brought in from the outside because it can not be synthesized in the body. But then it is known that there are many types of vitamins and some of which can be synthesized in the body such as vitamin K. By him that to understand more about this vitamin is required classification types of this vitamin.

Understanding Vitamins

In general understanding vitamin complex compound is a substance that is needed by our body that serves to aid the body's regulation of activities or processes. Although vitamin has many types but in general the vitamin works by promoting a particular chemical reaction in a metabolic process. If there is a deficiency of vitamins, metabolic process is well underway and the body will not become sick.


Classification of Vitamins


Based on their solubility, vitamins are classified into two namely, vitamins are soluble in water and vitamins are soluble in fat.

Vitamins that dissolve in fat in large doses can be harmful to the body because these vitamins can not be excreted out and will be stored in the body. The soluble vitamins dissolve it consists of Vitamin A, D, E, and K.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is known to have great benefits for the eyes. But other than that of vitamin A has many other benefits such as a role in fetal development and inhibits the onset of cancer. Vitamin A can be obtained from carrots, yellow squash, and spinach.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D has provitamin D under our skin that can turn into vitamin D when we get enough sunlight, especially in the morning. This vitamin deficiency can cause diseases such as osteoporosis, diabetes, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.

Vitamin E

This vitamin is known by women because it has important benefits for the skin. This vitamin works to maintain freshness, the youthfulness of the skin and prevent skin damage caused by exposure to ultraviolet light. Vitamin E can be obtained from horseradish, cayenne pepper, tomatoes, eggs, and corn.

Vitamin K

Lack of vitamin K can cause bleeding gums, easy bruising, and heavy menstruation. This vitamin can be obtained them from avocado, grapes, blueberries, and asparagus.

Water Soluble Vitamins


Water-soluble vitamins can be excreted into the urine so that large doses are not harmful to health. However, this type of water-soluble vitamins are usually more common case of deficiency in humans. As for the water-soluble vitamins include vitamin B complex this is and vitamin C.

Vitamin B Complex

Vitamin B Complex generally have the function to assist the process of digestion of food. This vitamin has many types of functions, each of which differ in metabolic processes. Which include B vitamins are vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12, B15, B17.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is known as skin whitening vitamin. This vitamin can whiten the skin because it can suppress the formation of pigment in the skin in the form of fine black spots due to sunburn. This vitamin also works to tighten the skin.
